Research on amnisties and migration in the region by Sandra Rozo

During the last day of LACEA-LAMES 2021, Sandra Rozo, a researcher at the World Bank, presented the paper titled Life Out of the Shadows: Impact of Amnisties in Migrant’s life co-authored by Ana Ibañez, María Ortega, Marisol Rodríguez, from the Inter-American Development Bank, and Andrés Moya, from Universidad de Los Andes.

During the conference, the World Bank researcher presented the paper on the immigration formalization program that Colombia carried out with Venezuelan migrants and how it changed their well-being. The results showed an increase in different welfare measures such as consumption, income, working conditions, food security, integration with Colombian society, etc.

According to Rozo, it is the first time they have done such extensive qualitative work, to the point that they had to do it with the support of Innovations for Poverty Actions, IPA Colombia. Furthermore, the economist comments that this was a very structured part of the analysis and that this qualitative support enriches and transforms a study and the researchers.

Finally, a significant contribution offered by this research is the realization of the sampling frame in which different methodologies and innovations were combined to find the control group, stated the World Bank economist.
