Universidad del Rosario holds LACEA-LAMES 2021
The event will have guest speakers like Joshua Angrist and Alvin Roth, Nobel prizes in Economic Sciences, and Pinelopi Goldberg, former chief economist of the World Bank.
From October 20th to October 22nd, the School of Economics of the Universidad del Rosario will host the 26th edition of the Latin American and Caribbean Economic Association (LACEA) annual meeting and the Latin American Meeting of the Econometric Society (LAMES). LACEA-LAMES is “the most important academic event in economics of Latin America and the Caribbean that gives home to reflections about the region most important economic challenges”, explains Juan Fernando Vargas PhD, faculty professor and chair of the event.
Since its creation 60 years ago, the economics school of the Universidad del Rosario has aimed at educating economists who can lead Colombia’s nation-building efforts. “It has been a long-termed academic project where research is at its core, not only generating new knowledge but also innovations in teaching”, says Carlos Sepúlveda, PhD, Dean of the school.
The School of Economics is home to top-level researchers that constantly publish in the best economic journals worldwide. “The published papers are noteworthy because of our leading role in national policymaking and our position of leading agents in Colombia’s science construction”, the Dean asserts.
The Universidad del Rosario community is honored to be hosting the 26th edition of the LACEA-LAMES. The conference is a result of the permanent dialogue that the school and the university have fostered between professors and students. “This leads them to be and feel part of the making of the event”, the Dean commented. Universidad del Rosario was selected as host among a group of other leading universities with top economics education. According to the Research Paper of Economics (REPEC) project, Universidad del Rosario’s academic and research production has made the economics school one of the top five economics schools in Latin America.
Historically, during the 367 years of existence of the Universidad del Rosario, the students have had a fundamental role in national decision-making, contributing to the university’s international reputation. Furthermore, this role has allowed the university to lead the economic and social reforms that have taken place in the country’s history. The opportunity to host the event will allow the economics school to grow and continue establishing itself in the region. Sepúlveda is certain that this occasion will contribute to academic growth and will help researchers tool up with new advances in the discipline that are useful for policymaking and the design of research projects.
At the LACEA LAMES annual meeting, participants will have the opportunity to attend more than 400 presentations to discuss and reflect on economic areas such as poverty, inequality, health, monetary policy, and others.
